Mancala has been played for thousands of years in Egypt, where game boards have been found carved into the stones of the pyramid at Luxor Temple. The game spread to Asia and Africa, where it developed into various versions. European travelers encountered the game in Cairo in the nineteenth century and brought it to Europe, while African slaves brought the game with them to the West Indies, from where it reached China. To this day, in many rural areas of Africa, children can still be seen playing the game with holes they dig in the ground.
The goal is to get more than half of the balls into the large hole on your right, before your opponent gets more than half of the balls into the large hole on their right. Each player takes turns picking up the balls from one hole on their side of the board, and distributing them one by one into the holes in a counterclockwise rotation.
The game balls are stored inside the game board, which folds up and protects the pieces.
